Frequently Asked Questions
How are appointments scheduled?
Appointments can be scheduled through the website (WhatsApp) or by phone.
Is online therapy secure?
Yes, it is regulated by the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP), and the psychologist takes all necessary measures to ensure the confidentiality of information in accordance with the Professional Code of Ethics for Psychologists and the General Data Protection Law (13.709/2018).
What is the duration of sessions?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes, and couples sessions are 80 minutes.
Who can benefit from therapy?
There are no restrictions; anyone can benefit from psychotherapy.
Will the psychologist prescribe medication?
No, only medical doctors can prescribe medication.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
Yes, according to the Professional Code of Ethics for Psychologists: “Art. 9 - It is the duty of the psychologist to respect professional secrecy to protect, through confidentiality, the intimacy of individuals, groups, or organizations accessed in the exercise of the profession.” The only exception to this article is immediate risk to the patient or others.
Does the psychologist give advice?
No. The goal of therapy is not for the patient to become dependent on the psychologist but to make decisions according to their own desires.
Why choose therapy over talking to friends and family?
A support network is essential, but professional therapy differs from emotional support provided by loved ones. Friends and family may advise or share what they would do in your place, while therapy allows you to address deeper issues and become the protagonist of your own story.
What is the recommended frequency of sessions?
I recommend at least one session per week, although it depends on each case. The frequency should be agreed upon between the patient and therapist. It's also important to note that biweekly sessions are not recommended for those beginning therapy, as the longer gap disrupts the therapeutic momentum and slows progress.
How long should therapy last?
There is no predetermined period; it depends on your goals and personal progress. Everyone has their own time frame to resolve issues, which should be respected.
What should I do if I cannot attend a scheduled session?
You should cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the session.
